Despite the fragile and unresolved nature of the present Middle East cease fire, for the first time in many, many years the people of our region have reason for real and tangible hope. At PeacePlayers, we embrace this long-awaited opportunity to breathe, heal and rebuild, recognizing that now more than ever it will take people on the ground creating the world we want — brick by brick.
At PeacePlayers, we have never wavered in our commitment to peace. Even in our toughest moments over the past two years, we continued to bring together Palestinian and Israeli young people, showing them through deep and personal experiences that cooperation and compassion are the foundations for a more peaceful world. And we are grateful and proud that these young people have continued to show up for one another – on and off the court – in a display of wisdom, strength and resilience far beyond their years.
We know that lasting peace is not something that one signs into existence; it is something that requires building and nurturing, person to person, each and every day. For that reason, we are doubling-down on our work to forge connections among all people who call this small piece of land home – developing empathy, and equipping young leaders to lead their communities toward reconciliation.
The road ahead remains complicated, with far too many lives marked by loss, displacement, and deep pain. But now more than ever, there is something real and tangible to cling to. We are committed to seizing hope in this moment, so that we may continue to be the change we want to see.
